Statistics is one subject that a student is tested upon in any MA Entrance. So if you feel you are perhaps weak in it, work positively to make it your stronger front instead. The difference between students who are under confident and those who are confident about any particular subject is practice. You can only gain confidence if you work upon something consistently, again read this word, consistently.
Practice on your basic concepts first and do 5 questions everyday from any book and that’s not much right. Well today it is not, but at the end of the week it would compound to 35 questions, end of the second week 70 and after 10 weeks 350 questions. Thus, now you know, why everyday matters. You might think, we don’t have anything new to say or we are repetitive, yes, we don’t have anything new, because that is truth, eternal truth for you folks, preparing for MA economics entrance test, that you have to be consistent enough.
I recommend the following books for Statistics, for the preparation of MA Economics entrance test.
SC Gupta: Basic, very basic book. A must for beginners, as it is a good question bank for you.
Nagar and Das: A good read. This book will help you understand the theoretical aspect of statistics, although it would not give you too many questions to play around with, but it is must for conceptual understanding.
SC Gupta and VK Kapoor: I suggest this book for mathematical statistics. This book is a hard core statistics book, full of challenging questions. Use this specifically for probability and probability distributions.
De Groot: The first chapter of this book might not challenge students who have already practiced enough but as you dig deeper into this book, it gets on the top of your head and makes you think deeper and clearer. That’s the beauty of this book. Very well written text meant for those who are ready to take up some challenging questions. You do not have to go beyond first three chapters of this book.
